Mr. Didier Balme: Mr. Didier Balme is Head of Coverage and Territories International at BNP Paribas. After obtaining his MBA degree from Columbia University, Mr. Balme joined Banque Nationale de Paris in 1974 as a research analyst.  From there, he moved on to the Project Finance team of our head office.  He later was recruited by our internal Audit Department where he stayed for 4 years before taking up the positions of General Manager of BNP Panama and then BNP Espana.  Mr. Balme was then repatriated to the International Division of our head office as the Head of the U.S. Desk, which was specifically responsible for the activities of our entities in the U.S.. In 1991, Mr. Balme was sent to Singapore where he spent 4 years as the Chief Executive and Regional Manager (South-East Asia) before coming to Hong Kong in November 1994 as Head of the BNP Hong Kong Group and then Head of North & East Asia. After more than 9 years in Hong Kong, he was sent back to the Head Office in Paris in 2004 to take over the responsibilities of Coverage and Territories International.

Mr. Alain Berger: Mr. Alain Berger has been President of Alstom China since September 2003. Mr. Berger joined ALSTOM in July 1999, as Senior Vice President, International Operations, Latin America and had been Senior Vice President, Commercial & Sales of Hydro Power Business of ALSTOM worldwide since early 2001.

Mr. Charles-Edouard Bouée: Mr. Charles-Edouard Bouée is President & Managing Partner of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants Greater China. He has more than 15-years work experience in consulting and industry companies such as Société Générale in M & A , AT Kearney as Vice President responsible of strategy practice, and Senior Partner in Roland Berger Strategy Consultants.

He holds Law and MS Engineering Degree from Ecole Centrale Paris, and MBA Degree from Harvard Business School.

Dr. Jean-Pierre Cabestan: Dr. Jean-Pierre Cabestan is Professor and Head, Department of Government and International Studies at Hong Kong Baptist University. He is also associate researcher at the Asia Centre, Paris. From 2003 to 2007 he was Senior Researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research. From 1998 to 2003, he was Director of the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China in Hong Kong. From 1994 to 1998, he was Director of the Taipei Office of the CEFC. In 1990-1991, he was Lecturer at the Politics Department of the School of Oriental and African Studies. He got his Ph.D. from the University of Paris 1 (Panthéon-Sorbonne).

Mr. Frédéric Campagnac: Vice President of CMA CGM China Beijing since 2006, Mr. Frédéric Campagnac was previously Director of the Asia-Pacific Division of the French Ministry for Infrastructure and Transport, worked as Consultant for Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Manila, for the French Civil Aviation Directorate in Paris, and as Aerospace Attaché at the Trade Commission for the French Embassy in China in Beijing.

He graduated as Engineer in Air Transport, earned a degree in Chinese language and civilization and a higher degree in Public Management in Paris (recruited as high-ranking civil servant).

Mr. Hervé Cayla: CEO of the France Telecom R&D Center in Beijing, and Chief Representative (Country Manager) for France Telecom Group in China. Based in Beijing, he is in charge of developing and managing the activity of the Beijing Orange Lab and to contribute to the development of the Group in China. For several years he has been focused on developing relationships, cooperation and partnership with Governmental organisations, Chinese telecommunication operators, Chinese universities and academic institutes, technology and equipment suppliers, start-ups and innovation centres.

Graduated from a French engineering university (Ecole Centrale Lille, 1975) and from the "Centre des Hautes Etudes de l’Armement" (CHEAr, Paris, 1992), Mr. Hervé Cayla has got 25 years of experience in developing and managing projects and business in China in Asia. He can speak fluent French, English and Chinese Mandarin.

Hervé Cayla is "Conseiller du Commerce Extérieur" (Foreign Trade Adviser) for the French Embassy, Vice-President of the French Chamber of Commerce in China (CCIFC) and President or Vice-President of the IT Working Group of EUCC (European Chamber of Commerce) since its creation in 2000.

Mr. Duncan Clark: Mr. Duncan Clark is Chairman of BDA, a company he founded in 1994. Based in Beijing covering China and North East Asia, with a recently opened New Delhi office, BDA is a leading advisory firm serving investors and participants in the telecom, media and technology (TMT) sectors in the most innovative and important Asian markets.  BDA’s initial client was Morgan Stanley, where Duncan had spent four years as an investment banker in London and Hong Kong focusing on corporate finance transactions in the TMT sectors.

He previously served on the Advisory Board of Nasdaq-listed Chinese portal Netease.com. He currently chairs the Media & Advertising Forum of the European Chamber of Commerce in China. Duncan is a frequent speaker at academic institutions and think-tanks such as Harvard University, Stanford University, Beijing’s Tsinghua University and the Royal Institute for International Affairs (Chatham House).

Mrs. Chia-Lin Coispeau: Mrs. Chia-Lin Coispeau is Yves Rocher Managing Director China and Strategy Projects Director Asia, based in Shanghai.
She has extensive work experience in consulting and consumer goods, having previously worked for Bain & Co, Louis Vuitton and Guinness both in Europe and Asia.

An MBA graduate from INSEAD Business School, she also holds Literature and MS engineering Degrees.

Mrs. Françoise Crouïgneau: Mrs. Françoise Crouïgneau is since September 2000 Editor in Chief Europe and International of Les Echos, she is in charge of a Club of economists and of a economical and political book review in a weekly section.

Mrs. Crouïgneau is the President of the Financial and Economic Journalists Association (AJEF), member of the steering committee of « Confrontations », a bi-partisan think-tank on economic, social and European topics. She is Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite and holds a degree in sociology and a Master’s in communication studies.

Dr. Michael DeGolyer: Dr. Michael DeGolyer is Professor of Government & International Studies at the Hong Kong Baptist University (fields:  political economy, political culture and public opinion).He holds a Ph.D. from Claremont Graduate University (1985).

A long time connoisseur of East Asia, he has widely published on Asia and China international relations issues. He also was a Contributor to Economist Intelligence Unit quarterly Hong Kong Country Reports (1996-2006), a weekly columnist for The Standard (China-region business focus), President of Hong Kong Political Science Association (since 2006).

Mr. Alex Fong: Mr. Alex Fong is the CEO of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce. Before taking up this appointment on 1 September 2006, Mr Fong had worked in the Hong Kong Government for over 20 years holding various postings, including Principal Hong Kong Economic and Trade Representative (Tokyo), Deputy Secretary for Economic Services, Deputy Secretary for Transport, Deputy Secretary for Security, Director of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in New York. He had also headed the Secretariat for the Hong Kong Port and Maritime Board and the Hong Kong Logistics Development Council.

Dr. Andrew Freris: Dr. Andrew Freris, Honorary Economist of the French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Hong Kong, joined BNP-Paribas in October 2000 as chief economist for Asia-Pacific for the Fixed Income and Treasury Group.

Dr. Freris taught at the London Guildhall University from 1968-1984 as a principal lecturer and at the City University of Hong Kong (1985-1990) where he was the head of the Economics and Finance Department.

He is the author and co-author of numerous books and articles including The Financial Markets of Hong Kong (Routledge, 1991) and The Greek Economy in the Twentieth Century (Croom Helm, 1986)

Mr. Hans-Günther Herrmann: Mr. Hans-Günther Herrmann is counsel in the Hong Kong office of Paul, Weiss and a member of the Paris Bar. His practice includes foreign investment-related work in China and mergers and acquisitions in various Asian jurisdictions focusing on regulated industries. He has represented multinational insurance companies in investments and regulatory matters in China and has been involved in private equity investments in the banking industry in Greater China. Mr. Herrmann has written many articles on the Chinese financial services industry, including "Foreign Investment in the Age of Convergence" (China Law and Practice, 2006) and "Regulatory Foundations for Bancassurance in China" (China Law and Practice, 2003).

Mr. Herrmann was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1997 and has a degree in Chinese from Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (France). Mr. Herrmann is a vice president of the French Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong and vice chairman of its China Committee.

Dr. Jean François Huchet: Dr. Jean-François Huchet is currently director of the French Centre for Research on Contemporary China (CEFC) in Hong Kong and director of the academic review China Perspectives. He was based in Asia for 15 years and has occupied several academic positions at the Maison franco-japonaise in Tokyo, CEFC in Hong Kong, and Peking University. He has published numerous articles and books on the Chinese economy, especially on the reform of the State-Owned enterprises. He has received his PhD of economics from the University of Rennes 1.

Dr. Athar Hussain: Dr. Athar Hussain is Deputy Director of the Asia Research Centre at London School of Economics. Dr.  Hussain has been engaged in research into the Chinese economy for over 20 years. He has served as an adviser to the People’s Republic of China government and to international organizations, including the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and the United Nations Development Program.

Dr. Arthur Kroeber: Dr. Arthur Kroeber is managing director and head of research at Dragonomics, based in Beijing since 2002, and editor of the China Economic Quarterly. From 1992 to 2002 he was a correspondent of the Economist Intelligence Unit covering China and South Asia and the author of numerous research reports on China and India. Dr. Kroeber is a regular contributor to the opinion page of the Financial Times and a consultant to Oxford Analytica.

The Hon Stephen Lam: The Honorable Stephen Sui-lung LAM, JP has been Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs since 1st July 2002 and is responsible for policies on electoral affairs, overseeing the implementation of the Basic Law and “One Country, Two Systems”, facilitating the development of the HKSAR’s external affairs, developing and maintaining a close working relationship between the HKSAR Government and the Central People’s Government, other Mainland authorities and the Macao Special Administrative Region Government; coordinating the liaison of the HKSAR with Taiwan.
He previously was Information Coordinator, Office of the Chief Executive and Director of Administration & Development, Department of Justice.

He holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences (University of Hong Kong, 1978), a Bachelor of Laws (University of London, 1983) and Barrister-at-Law (Gray’s Inn, 1986).

Dr. Willy Wo-Lap Lam: Dr. Willy Wo-Lap Lam is an Adjunct Professor at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, and Akita International University, Japan. A former journalist with the South China Morning Post and CNN, Dr. Lam has written about China for 30 years. He is the author of six books on Chinese politics and foreign affairs, including the just-published Chinese Politics in the Hu Jintao Era (M E Sharpe, N.Y.). Dr. Lam has specialized in Communist Party politics, the PLA, political and economic reform, as well as Chinese diplomacy.

Ms. Christine Loh is the CEO of the non-profit think tank Civic Exchange. She is a lawyer by training, a commodities trader by profession, and a former politician who served for 9 years in the Hong Kong Legislative Council. She is a director of the Hong Kong stock and futures exchange, and an adviser to the G8+5 Climate Change Dialogue. She is also a member of the science team working on air quality improvement for the Beijing Olympics.

Mr. Gérard Millet: Mr. Gérard Millet has over 30 years of investment banking experience, mostly gained in Asia, in the fields of Corporate Finance, Mergers & Acquisitions and direct investments.  Mr. Millet has lived continuously in Hong Kong for the past 27 years.

His academic qualifications include a degree with highest honours from the Institute of Political Sciences in Paris, a Master degree in Economics and a MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (USA).

At present, Mr. Millet is Managing Director of Sodica Asia Ltd, a Hong Kong based M&A and advisory firm, subsidiary of the the mid-caps corporate finance company of the Credit Agricole Group.

A founding vice-president of the Hong Kong Venture Capital Association and a past president of the French Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong, Mr. Millet served for two years on the International Business Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Government.

He is a Chevalier de la Légion d’Honneur and a Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite of France.

Mr. Ian Perkin: Ian Perkin is an economist, journalist and public affairs adviser. He was for 12 years (1991- 2002) Assistant Director and Chief Economist of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce and previously spent two years as Business Editor of The South China Morning Post. Before moving to Hong Kong, he was a journalist and editor, public relations executive, lobbyist and political adviser in Australia (though not all a the same time). He is now an economist and public affairs consultant working in Asia and Australia. He still writes a monthly economics column for Hong Kong Business magazine. His most recent major advisory projects were in Indonesia and Australia.

Ir. Otto Poon: Ir. Otto Poon, BBS, OBE, is a Professional Engineer and the Chairman of ATAL Analogue Group of Companies.  He previously served as President of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and in Advisory Council on the Environment and Energy Advisory Committee.  He is now a member in the Council for Sustainable Development, Adviser of Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre and President of the Hong Kong Association of Energy Engineers.

Mr. Hugo Restall: Mr. Hugo Restall became the editor of the Far Eastern Economic Review in October 2004, and is also a member of the editorial board of The Wall Street Journal. In 2004 he was posted in New York and wrote editorials for The Wall Street Journal about the presidential campaign and the U.S. economy. From 1999 to 2003, he was editorial page editor of The Asian Wall Street Journal (now The Wall Street Journal Asia). At The Asian Wall Street Journal, he managed a team of three editorial writers, solicited signed opinion pieces and wrote editorials on Asia that also appeared in The Wall Street Journal and The Wall Street Journal Europe. Mr. Restall first joined the The Asian Wall Street Journal in April 1994 as an editorial page writer.

In 2001 and 2003, Mr. Restall won the Society of Publishers in Asia (SOPA) award for “Best Opinion Piece.” He is an Asian Studies graduate of Dartmouth College and studied Mandarin Chinese at Yunnan University.

Mr. George Singleton: Mr. George Singleton is Regional Strategy Director at Publicis Asia Pacific. George is responsible for overseeing strategy, planning and analysis across the region. With over 20 years of experience in marketing, brand strategy and consumer/customer insight projects, he has worked in the U.S., Europe, Latin America and Asia. Since the beginning of 1994, George has lived and worked in Asia, including 2 years in Beijing.

A winner of several industry awards, including Media Magazine’s Asia Pacific ‘Business Person of the Year’ in 2004, George continues to devise innovative strategy and insight projects, and continues to make significant contributions to key clients.

Mr. Jacques Torregrosssa: Mr. Jacques Torregrossa, born in 1954, has been French Trade commissioner in Shanghai, head of UBIFRANCE China, since 2005. UBIFRANCE is the French agency for international business development.

After some time in IBM France, Mr. Jacques Torregrossa has been French trade attaché in Saudi Arabia, Japan, USA (Chicago) and Singapore and French Trade commissioner in Japan (Osaka), Thailand, and China (Shanghai, present posting).

Mr. Hubert Védrine: Mr. Hubert Védrine is a former French Minister of Foreign Affairs (1997-2002). After graduating from the Ecole Nationale d’Administration he began his career in the Culture Ministry (in charge of patrimony), then at the Foreign Affairs Ministry. He became spokesman for the President of the French Republic, François Mitterrand (1988-1991), before acting as General Secretary to the Presidency (1991-1995). Since January 2003, he has managed his own consultancy firm (Hubert Védrine Conseil) specializing in geopolitical strategy and international economics, working for several large companies and cooperating with the law firm Gide Loyrette Nouel. He sits at LVMH Board of Directors and was chosen by UN Secretary Kofi Annan in 2005 to be one of twenty international members of the High-level Group of the United Nations’ initiative The Alliance of Civilizations. He is also the author of many books related to globalization and international relations. On September 4, 2007, he released a report to the new French President Nicolas Sarkozy on France and globalization.

Mr. Fred Wang: Mr. Fred Wang graduated with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business and Economics from Whittier College, California.

The Wang family founded Salon Films (Hong Kong) Limited in 1969.  Mr. Wang has been a director of Salon since 1969 and he has worked with various major Hollywood film and television companies in setting up projects in Asia.

Since 1985, Mr. Wang has been involved with various investment groups in Asia notably Unifund S.A., a Geneva based investment service company.

Mr. Wang is the Hon. Vice President of the China Film Foundation, a member of Board of Governors of the Federation of Hong Kong Business Associations Worldwide and Director of the Board of the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society Limited and Hon. Vice Director of the china Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.

Mr. Anthony Wu: Mr. Anthony Wu, JP, is the Chairman of the Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre in Hong Kong.  He is a National Committee Member of the China’s People’s Political Consultative Conference since 1998.  He is the Chairman of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority and is also the Board Member of the United Nations Association of China and Member of the China Society for People’s Friendship Studies.  And he was formerly the Chairman of Ernst & Young Far East, China and Hong Kong from 2000 to 2005 and is now a senior advisor of Ernst & Young.

He is also the Member of the Commission on Strategic Development; Member of Health and Medical Development Advisory Committee; Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce; Trustee and Council Member of the Oxford University Scholarship Fund; and Author of International Bank Accounting, Hong Kong Chapter.

Ms. Yan Lan: Ms. YAN Lan is partner, and member of the Paris Bar. She joined Gide Loyrette Nouel (GLN) in 1991 after working with several American law firms. She specializes in foreign investment in China, and in particular in advising foreign investors involved in joint-ventures. She has established a unique network of contacts in the various central and local administrations, and has privileged connections with some of the largest Chinese State-owned finance and infrastructure companies. She advises foreign clients regarding mergers and acquisitions and international companies in the retail sector. She also has experience in international arbitration and is an arbitrator for the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC). She is one of France's Foreign Trade Advisers.
