From power supply to defence and security, from the bottom of the ocean to aerospace, the demand for engineers is rising. To fill the openings in the engineering labour market, a gender diverse and inclusive work environment is a must.
To overcome this challenge, Doreen Lee, Head of Human Resources, Thales Hong Kong, and Connie Lam, Director of Human Resources, CLP Power Hong Kong Limited, will share their professional experience and initiatives they have implemented to attract female talent to engineering careers. Prof. Pascale Fung, Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, will also talk about how academia can work together with the industry to promote gender balance.

She holds a Master of Science in Strategic Human Resource Management from Hong Kong Baptist University. She is also a seasoned Strategic HR Business Partner and specializes in Railway, Energy and High Technology industries with rich experience in merger & integration, strategic workforce planning, organization development and change management.
Headquarted in France, Thales' core business and services include the manufacturing, marketing, and sale of electronic equipment and systems for aeronautics, naval, and defense sectors. It also designs and delivers systems for high-level security in the domains of land, air, naval, space, and cyberspace.

Professor of Electronic and Computer Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
Prof. Fung is a renowned academic in artificial intelligence. For years, she has been active in promoting women’s rights and diversity in academia and society. Among her early achievements is the launch of the world’s first Chinese natural language search engine in 2001. She proposed the applications of machine learning and mathematics on natural language understanding, and became a pioneer in the core area of AI. She founded the Women Faculty Association at HKUST in 2011 to promote diversity and equality in terms of gender, discipline, cultural and personal background. The initiative was among the first in Asia.
