Xingdong CHENManaging Director & Chief China Economist Head of Global Market Research (China) BNP Paribas

Xingdong Chen, born in Sept 1960, graduated from Peking University with Bachelor and Master Degree in Economics in 1983 and 1985, respectively, and trained on macroeconomics (theory, policy and practices) in Oxford University as a visiting postgraduate in 1986-1988.

He worked for the World Bank twice: From February to August 1988, Mr. Chen was appointed as an economic consultant by World Bank’s China and Mongolia Department in Washington DC (energy price reform and corporate incentives); From June 1990 to June 1993, Mr. Chen worked as an economist at World Bank’s China Resident Mission. From 1985 to 1986 and from 1988 to 1990, Mr. Chen was the economist and section chief of the Economic Reform Commission of PRC State Council, participating in a series of China’s open-up and reform policy formulation and implementation (corporate reform, fiscal and financial reform programs).

Mr. Chen has worked in the investment banking for more than 27 years, starting with Crosby (later changed to Socgen-Crosby) Securities Limited in Sept 1993 as a senior economist and Chief Economist. He joined Peregrine Investment Group in 1997 as the Chief Economist and Managing Director of Peregrine Securities Ltd. and Executive Deputy General Manager of Peregrine Investment Consulting Co. Peregrine was taken over by BNP Paribas Group in Feb 1998. Since then until now, he worked as the Managing Director, Chief China Economist, Chief Representative of BNP Paribas Equities Beijing Rep Office, head of GM Macroeconomic Research, head of GM Research and member of GM Research Exco.

Mr. Chen is rewarded as the Chief Economist of the Year (2016) by China Financial Value Ranking; the best China Economist by Asiamoney (2001), and the cover-page figure by the PBOC magazine of China Finance (Feb 2017). Xingdong frequently makes policy consultations by invitation to various China’s government departments. He frequently gives presentations to conferences, forums and seminars on thematic topics.

He is the guest Professor of the School of Economics of Peking University, the guest professor of School of Financial Study of China Political and Legal University. He is the Deputy Chairman of the Chief Economist Association, the specially invited research fellow of China Economic Reform Association, and specially invited research fellow and Committee member of Academy of China Wealth Management 50 Forum. He was the Chairman and is the director of Cairncross Foundation. He was once one of the director of the A-share Fund Board of Director.
