Basic Law expert Danny Gittings will speak about the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle, Article 23, and the new national security law.

The Hong Kong Basic Law was promulgated in 1990 and since then has served as the de facto constitution of the city.

In light of the 30th anniversary of the declaration of the Hong Kong Basic Law, we will be joined by Danny Gittings, author of Introduction to the Hong Kong Basic Law, to review the historical background and implementation of the law and to provide you with a deeper understanding of how the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle is being applied.

This webinar will be moderated by Rebecca Silli, President of the French Chamber in Hong Kong.

Key takeaways:

  • The history and key provisions of the Hong Kong Basic Law

  • The application of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ principle

  • Facts about Article 23 and its development in the current context

  • The legal aspects of the national security law and its relationship with the Hong Kong Basic Law
