Charles Chan is a Partner in the Corporate Tax group of PricewaterhouseCoopers, Hong Kong. He has near 20 years experience in providing tax and business consulting services to local, regional, multi-national and listed companies in different industries. Charles also has experience working as an Assistant Assessor in the Profits Tax Section of the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department (IRD).
Over the years, Charles has been assisting many clients to invest in the Mainland China through Hong Kong. Charles provides tax and business advisory services to clients such as formulating the business models for the China operations that fit his clients’ business objectives, leveraging Hong Kong as a financing hub for the investments in China, analysing the relevant tax and business regulations for overseas clients investing in China etc. Charles’ clients cover large variety of industries such as retail and consumer products, trading, sourcing, gaming, advertising, technology, logistic and transportation, private equity funds, professional services etc.

•Leaded a number of tax and business consulting projects on GBA set up and China market expansion strategy;
•Assisted a client in garment industry to review its business model in Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland China and find a solution to streamline the business operations from tax and regulatory perspectives;
•Leading a project assisting a client in technology industry to set up an investment platform in Hong Kong for China investments;
•Assisted a client in advertising industry to set up corporate treasury functions in Hong Kong to manage the Hong Kong and China investments;
•Assisted retail clients setting up their sales, logistic, sourcing hubs in Hong Kong/China and analyzing the relevant tax and regulatory implications;
•Provided tax and business advisory services on ecommerce projects for sales to China market.
Qualifications / other roles
He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree (major in Accounting and Finance) from the University of Hong Kong. Besides, he is a member of HKICPA and ACCA. Charles is also a committee member of ACCA and Co-Chairman of SME and Taxation subcommittees.
