Dr David Owens qualified in Medicine from Leeds University in 1984. He has been working as a doctor in Hong Kong since 1988. He is an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor in Family Medicine (HKU) and Chief Medical Officer of Hong Kong Rugby Union. He is one of the two founding partners of OT&P Healthcare (https://www.otandp.com/).

Dr Owens’ experience with epidemics began in 1986 when he worked as a junior doctor in a chest unit. There, he saw an increase in a type of pneumonia caused by what was at the time a relatively new disease; AIDS. This sparked his interest in epidemiology. He subsequently wrote a number of articles and delivered health talks during the SARS epidemic.

Dr Owens produced his first COVID-19 newsletter to patients in January 2020. Since then, he has produced 18 Newsletters that have been read in excess of 850,000 times. To further support this public health messaging, OT&P have created a podcast on Spotify or on iTunes. In these podcasts, Dr Owens interviews experts in epidemiology and front line workers around the world in order to get up to date information and insight on topics such as COVID-19 variants and vaccines. You can find more information about these communications on their website (https://www.otandp.com/).
